In Conversation with Carlin
We sat down with CO-PRESENTS artist Carlin Kramer to gain perspective into her inspirations and process leading up to the premiere of her new work.
CO- : What was your initial inspiration for this piece? Has it evolved?
Carlin: My initial inspiration came from my own desire and fantasy to create a world where I can exist and transform. This has evolved over many years – through creating and through the experience of living in my body.
CO- : What/who are you bringing into the creative space with you? (Literally or metaphorically or both)
Carlin: In spirit, I’m bringing my people into the space with me - they inspire me and keep me pushing forward. Even though I’m creating a solo, I’m not alone!
CO- : What have been some recent joys for you of being an artist in Seattle? Some recent joys in general?
Carlin: My biggest recent joy has been being in process for Heather Kravas’s work, Rococococo. Getting to know everyone and then performing alongside these incredible people has been a huge joy and effort!
CO- : How does your dance/making practice inform how you relate to the world?
Carlin: Other joys have been the simple moments of laughter and release with my friends and loved ones!
CO- : How does your dance/making practice inform how you relate to the world?
Carlin: My dance/making practice and my life inform each other constantly! I need time in the studio, as well as time away from it, to process and understand both life and dance. Everything is dance <3
